Age groups

Our nursery is split into 4 rooms, with each room devoted to caring for a specific age range. We’ve designed our nursery so that children move between rooms when they are ready, not based on when their birthday is.

Here at Tiggy-Winkles our days are not rigidly structured but all rooms try to keep to a routine which the children can recognise and anticipate. A familiar routine helps to ensure that your child is happy and secure.

Cotton Tails Room

(3 – 14 months)

In our youngest room, babies are cared for by a team of fully qualified staff who create a calm, safe and nurturing environment for all our little ones. Babies enjoy a range of activities and are supported in reaching their next steps of development.

We have a comfortable chair, brightly painted walls and floor cushions to promote the home environment, cots for each baby to enjoy a restful sleep, a separate nappy change area and kitchen area, an area for messy play and lots of space for those all-important first steps.

We also use the wonderful Dream Coracles for our older babies sleep times. An inviting sleep space or cosy retreat that children can choose to climb into

Tiny Tots Room

(14 – 24 months)

Our toddler rooms are adapted to suit the needs and interests of our mobile babies and toddlers. The rooms are separated into 2 groups, older children and younger children. The children have a messy room, where they engage in a variety of activities tailored to their individual interests.

Early Learners Room

(24 – 36 months)

This room is set up a little more like a young pre-school room, all resources are accessible to the children daily. The staff will plan activities for the children according to the child’s interests. We have found this is the age group where the children start showing an interest in potty training; our staff are skilled in this area and will work closely with parents to ensure continuity of routine. Social skills and peer relationships are fostered through group activities and during mealtimes.

Pre-school Room

(36 – 60 months)

The pre-school room has its own bathroom where children are encouraged to use it by themselves in preparation for the transition to primary school. Activities planned by the staff introduce them to letters and numbers. The room has a wide range of continuous provisions and all activities are tailored for the children as individuals. Our pre-schoolers access the outdoor space at any time of the day as we have a separate area with more challenging equipment and a knowledge and understanding area.

Our nursery and pre-school is open for 51 weeks of the year, 8:30 am – 5:30 pm. We are closed on bank holidays and for a week between Christmas and New Year. Early starts/late pick ups available upon request.

  • Full Day Session: 8:30 am – 5:30 pm
  • Morning Session: 8:30 am – 1:00 pm
  • Afternoon Session: 1:00 pm – 5:30 pm

Could not praise [them] highly enough. A warm welcoming environment that makes both parents and children feel at ease. My daughter has come on leaps and bounds and absolutely loves going to nursery.
