Age groups

Our nursery is split into 4 rooms, with each room devoted to caring for a specific age range. We’ve designed our nursery so that children move between rooms when they are ready, not based on when their birthday is.

Here at Rocking Horse our days are not rigidly structured but all rooms try to keep to a routine which the children can recognise and anticipate. A familiar routine helps to ensure that your child is happy and secure.

Tiny Toes Room 1

(3 – 12 months)

Tiny toes 1 is one of our dedicated baby rooms, situated on the ground floor. The room is light and spacious, with a home-from home feel, allowing our babies to develop their senses to explore the world around them and gain confidence as they grow into unique little people. They have excellent opportunities to develop skills that support their Personal, social and emotional development, communication and language skills and their physical skills. These areas of learning are key for successful further learning as your child grows older.
All of our staff that work with our babies, complete additional training that is specific to caring for babies and young children.

We endeavor to work very closely with our parents to ensure your baby’s transition from home to nursery is as smooth as possible. Prior to starting their journey, you and your baby are invited to attend visits to familiarise yourself with the nursery environment and spend time sharing your knowledge of your baby with their key person. This will enable the key person to begin to plan unique care and learning opportunities that also takes into account routines from home. This helps to support babies emotional well-being and self-confidence.

We provide a variety of sleeping arrangements for our babies, this includes cots, pods or sleeping baskets.

Tiny Toes Room 2

(12 – 24 months )

Tiny toes 2 is a large open plan room that leads directly into an age specific covered outdoor area,  designed for the ever inquisitive explorer! Toddlers have access to  a range of toys and resources as they learn how to make independent choices alongside high quality adult-led teaching. We encourage our toddlers to be creative, active learners and continue to support their development across the 3 prime areas of learning (communication and language, personal, social and emotional and physical).

A day in a toddler’s shoes, can be very tiring, which is why we provide a range of spaces to encourage independent rest or sleep.

Little Learners Room

(24 – 36 months)

Children of this age, will have learnt many skills. We aim to further build on these through providing additional experiences that support the development in literacy, mathematics, understanding the world and expressive arts and design (specific areas of learning). Children have access to two large rooms. Each of the rooms offer a wide variety of learning opportunities that stimulate their minds, senses and supports them to make excellent progress.

We endeavour to work with parents to help support a range of topics, such as potty training.

Little Learners Room

(36 – 60 months)

We are very fortunate to be able to offer a spacious dedicated Pre-school Unit that is led by our experienced Early Years Teacher and highly qualified staff team. Our main focus of the unit is to support your child to become school ready and work towards the early learning goals. We have our ‘Rising Stars’ program that is designed to help prepare your child for the next big step up to primary school! We have excellent links with many of our local schools and work closely to share all the excellent progress your child has made.

Children are encouraged to continue to learn through play and are introduced to adult-led sessions such as letters and sounds. The have access to a separate outdoor area where they can play, discover, develop their imagination and build on their physical skills.

Our nursery and pre-school is open for 51 weeks of the year, from 7:30 am – 6:00 pm. We are closed on bank holidays and for a week between Christmas and New Year.

  • Full Day Session: 7:30 am – 6:00 pm
  • Morning Session: 7:30 am – 1:00 pm
  • Afternoon Session: 1:00 pm – 6:00 pm

Rocking Horse is a brilliant nursery, my 1-year-old loves it there. He is always excited to go in, the girls are always happy to see him in the mornings.
