Hermitage Day Nursery provides care for up to 80 children a day in our purpose built nursery and pre-school.

We have excellent partnership with parents, carers and other professionals involved with our families such as health visitors, area SENCo and Speech and Language therapist as well as having close connections with local schools to enable our staff to support smooth transitions to school.

Everything we do is driven by our desire to provide the highest levels of quality childcare that we can. We pride ourselves on having a fully qualified team of practitioners who are experience and passionate about what they do. Age groups

Our nursery is split into 6 rooms, with each one designed to cater to a specific age range. We operate our nursery in a way that facilitates children’s transition between rooms when they are ready, not just based on their age.

All children have access to an enclosed outdoor play area on a free flow basis where they can explore the natural world as much as they like. We have our own minibus and pushchairs which we use to ensure children can access the wider community and explore beyond the nursery grounds and can go out into the local community for things such as a walk to the local park.

Hermitage Day Nursery & Pre-school

Baby Room 1

(3 – 16 months)

In our baby room they take part in many multi-sensory experiences to boost their awareness of the world around them. Our staff follow your baby’s individual routine at nursery providing a smooth transition from home to nursery life.

Babies benefit from a sleep area to have a lie down when needed and their own garden area where they can explore without the hustle and bustle of older children. This is adjoined to our large play area which means the babies still have the opportunity to engage with other children.

Baby Room 2

(16 -24 months)

At this age, children start to benefit from a general routine with free play sessions, snack time and other age appropriate activities. In our dining area, our nurturing staff help the children learn to feed themselves, bolstering their independence as they grow.

Toddler Room

(24 – 32 months)

The Toddler Room is set up daily with stimulating activities across all areas of learning and development including Role play, Mathematics, ICT, Construction, Mark making, Messy play and Creative activities. Adult-led activities also take place alongside free play each day for more targeted support with meeting next steps in learning.

We have found this is the age group where the children start showing an interest in potty training; our staff are skilled in this area and will work closely with parents to ensure continuity of routine. Social skills and peer relationships are fostered through group activities and during meal times.

Tweenie Room

(32 – 40 months)

The children take part in group time activities such as gathering time at the beginning of the session and story and circle times during the day.

Pre-school Room 1 & 2

(40 – 60 months)

Our pre-school has a capacity of 34 children across our 2 rooms. These rooms gradually begin preparing children for school with a carefully planned programme of activities, providing free play within a slightly more structured environment.

We promote independence by encouraging self-selection at meal times, making choices, solving their own disputes and involving the children in the planning of the day.
